Marine Mammal Eco-Safari - Matuku Link 3rd Anniversary Fundraiser

NZD $99.00
  • Duration: 270 Minutes

Matuku Link Project is fundraising with $99 tickets for a special trip with Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari.

Saturday 2nd November 2019, 8:00 am - 12:30 pm (back-up date Saturday 9th November)

We’re celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the Matuku Link Project, restoring a native bush and wetland area in Te Henga/Bethells, and are fundraising with half-price tickets! Normally $190 excluding lunch, NOW JUST $99 including lunch!

Why celebrate on the water? Because a wetland is all about water... and we might even sail over an eel from our area, on its way to spawn in Tonga.

From the Waitakere Dam, which provides Auckland with 20% of its drinking water, the Waitakere River flows through Matuku Link to te Henga, Auckland’s largest wetland. Matuku Link is bringing back the mauri of the river, by riparian planting to create shade and habitat for our native birds and fish, with grasses, plants and trees grown in our onsite nursery from locally sourced seeds.

Three years ago this 37 ha site was bought by a group of four trustees with support of many generous donors, to link several conservation projects and protect and restore 5 ha of wetland. Business groups, students and community groups have enjoyed our place, built our nursery, potted, weeded and planted and in total contributed over 10.000 volunteer hours.

We’re aiming to build a Sustainable Wetland Education Centre with an accessibility trail to increase the knowledge about, and love for, our amazing water and wetlands.

Usually twice the price, this is also our opportunity to thank all of you for your support: contributing your time, energy, knowledge, networks and materials towards our goals. Be prepared for some speeches when we're enjoying our lunch and the whales are out of sight!

Help us fund our goals by spending a day on a different body of water: the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. In search of whale and dolphins, we’ll provide you with a great likeminded company, an update on our work and plans and of course a packed lunch.
