Marine Mammal Eco-Safari - Love our Wetlands Waiheke Fundraiser

NZD $90.00
  • Duration: 240 Minutes

Love Our Wetlands Waiheke are fundraising with 1/2 price tickets for a special trip with Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari.

**RESCHEDULED**  Sunday 25th August 2019,

From Matiatia Wharf, Waiheke:  8:00 am - 12:00 pm

From Auckland Viaduct: 7:00 am - 1:00 pm

Love Our Wetlands Waiheke is working super hard to restore 4 beautiful wetlands on Waiheke. We have partnered with Million Metres and the Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari to raise $25,000 to restore 325 additional metres of the wetland. This will mean we can plant 1724 native plants and trees and our wetlands will love us for it! There’s lots of site prep so planting will occur in 2020 or 2021.

The plantings will create a buffer between the waterway and the land. They will help to filter contaminants and reduce erosion that can be harmful to fish. They will provide habitat for the rare moho-pererū (Banded Rail) and other birds.

Waiheke Resources Trust has worked with experts to develop a diverse planting plan and budget for the work. Our goal is to raise $25,025. This goal includes funds for the plants, preparing the site for planting, volunteer coordination, and maintenance of the planting to ensure the trees thrive.

We are also super excited to be hosting the safari during Plastic Free July. We are all making changes in our lives during July to limit the amount of single-use plastic we use on the daily. Getting out amongst the whales and dolphins and all of the other beautiful marine animals really puts into perspective why we are doing it.
